April's PTC Community Meeting was held on 4/16, with special guest, Lisa Senter, Cedar Park's MYP Coordinator. Senter gave a quick overview of the MYP program here at Cedar Park, as well as gave info about the upcoming IB recertification.
CPMS Vice Principal, Mike Alpert, stepped in for Dr. Anderson, who had a conflicting District meeting to give valuable Cedar Park updates.

Better late than never! Here's February's meeting recap, which was held in the CPMS Maker's Lab. Special guests included Danielle Alexander from "Yes to Beaverton Schools" and Todd Sheely and Luke Unger, who have been working with Dr. Anderson to improve our Maker's Lab.

Parents who are interested in helping to organize the end of year activities for the 8th grade are invited to a planning session on Wed, 4/25, at 3:30pm in the CPMS cafeteria.
**This is not a meeting for those interested in simply volunteering on the day of the event. Those sign-ups will be coming out closer to the end of the year.

Cedar Park's Art Literacy program is already looking into 2018-19 as it seeks a new leadership team.
Next year, Art Lit will continue with its revamped scheduled. There will be only one unit/artist presented during the school year for each grade. Two art lit coordinators FROM EACH GRADE will manage and oversee their grade's project, significantly reducing the previous leadership work load.
The Art Lit Coordinators need to choose their artist art box during May 2018 (next month!), so let us know you're interested in this wonderful program!
The Art Literacy Coordinators' jobs for next year are straightforward and simple. You pick an artist, you get the artist box, you order the supplies you need for your grade (approximately 300 students), you coordinate with the Humanities head teacher to pick a date and reserve the Library. On that date you do the presentation and production for each of three class periods in the Library. Then you are done for the entire school year.
The art box contains all the presentation materials needed to be able to effectively present the unit. It also has information on what is needed for the production (art project).
You only need to ask for parent volunteers to help prep the materials for the big day and to help when the students are in the Library.
Funds for the Art Literacy Program are generously provided from the PTC fund.
This is a fun and engaging way to connect with the students and see what great creative ideas they develop based on the artist presented.

Rainbow Dance Company's "iLumiDance Revealed"
On March 22, Rainbow Dance Co. performed "iLumiDance Revealed" to a gym full of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. This performance was made possible by a generous grant from Far West Recycling and an additional contribution by the Cedar Park Parent Teacher Club, using funds raised from last fall's 5K fundraiser.
The professional dancers lit up the darkened gym and appeared to "float" through the space. Students were inspired to express ideas through art and engineering. The show was a great combination of art and the engineering design process.
The students really enjoyed the portion of the show called "stick person" where a group of six students collaborated on a dance. After prototypes and practice, the lights went out and the stick person danced "Gangnam Style" as the audience roared in appreciation and acknowledgement for the hard work of student participants. It was clear that the performers enjoyed working together on a difficult task.
Thanks again to Far West Recycling, Young Audiences, and the PTC for their work and generous support bringing this professional art and engineering experience to Cedar Park students.
