8th Graders to Dive into the Civil War World of Mathew Brady

Screen Shot 2018-03-21 at 7.40.31 AM.png

The eighth graders of Cedar Park will be exploring a unit on the American Civil War. The CPMS Art Literacy Program will expand on this topic by studying the Civil War photographer, Mathew Brady.  If you’ve seen a Civil War photo, it was probably done by Mathew Brady or one of his photographers.

Art Lit Volunteers will take a portrait of your student(s) in the style of Mathew Brady.  Costumes are supplied by Art Lit.  Photos will begin during Advisory (this Friday morning).  More dates will be added.

The schedule for this week is:

Friday, March 23 - Ms. Barbis Advisory (8th graders only)

  • If your child DOES NOT want their portrait taken, they may opt-out.
  • If your child needs extra time, email the Art Lit coordinators to set up a time when it is not hectic.

Boys, please wear dark pants (chino-type) or jeans.  This also goes for girls planning to fight in the war.

Volunteer shifts are available at myvolunteerpage.com.

Questions can be directed to MaryBeth Piccirilli & Daphne Teals, Art Literacy Coordinators (Cpms.art.lit@gmail.com).

Cedar Park Art Literacy is made possible by the generous 5K donations of our CPMS community members.

Cedar Park Walkout Details

Screen Shot 2018-03-13 at 10.56.47 AM.png

Please note:  This is not a PTC event. This event is not organized or sponsored by Cedar Park Middle School.

Women’s March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies to take part in a #NationalSchoolWalkout for 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2018 to protest Congress’ continued inaction in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods.

A group of eight graders at Cedar Park has taken the initiative to show solidarity with the students from Parkland who started this movement to push Congress to take action to strengthen gun laws to keep our children safe at school and in their communities.

At CPMS, the plan is to:

  • Walk out of class at 10:00 am into the cafeteria (not leaving the school).  Teachers will allow students to leave class to head to the cafeteria, where they will be supervised.
  • Have a minute of silence
  • Write cards to representatives in Congress and the students from Parkland
  • Walk back to class at 10:17am

If your child is interested, encourage them to participate and wear orange (orange is the color of the movement to end gun violence).
