BEF Hosts Cedar Park's "Bridge Engineering" Fundraiser

Cedar Park’s 8th grade science team is seeking funding for a fun, innovative, and hands-on project for this school year.

“The students will create bridges of glued basswood sticks.  We’ll coach them through the design process and create one-to-one scaled engineering plans. Students will cover the plans with wax paper and build their scaled bridge on top, measuring exact dimensions. We'll need pins and clamps to hold everything during assembly, until the glue is set.  Once the teams have their engineered product, it will be time to test.

They will drive a semi-truck onto each bridge (a block of wood with pre-measured weighted material.) They will then record measurements and keep adding weight until they stress the bridge to its breaking point.

This project will be a great way for our students to have a hands-on engineering project that our regular school budgets do not allow for.  Real experiences make such a difference in a student’s perspective and engage students of all ability levels.  Please consider funding our project!”

Cedar Park is super excited for the social  on Friday! We have many things in store for you.

First, there will be a food truck. Everything costs between $1-2. There will be hot dogs, chips, soda, sno cones & cotton candy. Each student will be given a ticket worth $1.50 to purchase whatever you wish.

Please bring money from home if you’d like to buy more than one item. The DJ will be in the cafeteria, so you can listen to music while you eat and then dance!

There will be several activities, including a caricature artist and a face painter. As we’ve had in the past, there will be a photo booth where you can take pictures with your friends using a variety of props, along with karaoke and iPads/board games in the library.

We are looking forward to seeing you have a great time on Friday - don’t forget to bring your money to buy food!
