PTC Purchases Student Planners

Screen Shot 2017-11-13 at 7.50.19 AM.png

This fall, Cedar Park's PTC purchased 700 student planners for every sixth and seventh grader.  Eighth graders have switched to the free online planners offered in their Canvas or google accounts.

Student organizational skills are a strong part of middle school and AVID teaching goals.

This purchase was a part of the 2017-18 budget and was made possible by your generous 5K donation.

CPMS Successfully Staffs BSD Clothes Closet

Cedar Park parents and community members successfully staffed the Beaverton Clothes Closet today, ensuring excellent service to all the clientele and working through literal mounds of donations.

Volunteers sort through a mountain of donations.

Volunteers sort through a mountain of donations.

Due to the recently implemented early release Wednesdays, the Clothes Closet has seen a downturn in volunteerism in the afternoon.  Thankfully CPMS was able to staff the store through 4pm.

The store is open to all families with current students, kindergarten through 12th grade.  Families do not need to prove need, but do need to pick up a admit slip from their school secretary.  The Closet is open from 10am-7pm every Wednesday of the school year.

Currently the Beaverton Clothes Closet is in need of winter coats and hooded sweatshirts for middle and high schoolers.  Donations can be dropped of at their location at 16550 SW Merlo Road, Beaverton, OR 97006.

More information regarding BSD's Clothes Closet program can be found here.

Canvas Parent Observer Accounts Now Available

Beaverton School District parents are now able to create their own Canvas Parent Observer Accounts.

The Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) is used by many middle and high school teachers as an extension to in-class instruction. Teachers using Canvas can post assignments, give feedback, and communicate with students.

Parents or guardians do not need a Canvas account to monitor student progress, you can continue to use ParentVUE; however, you can create a Canvas account to view more detailed assignment information, view feedback and communicate with the teacher.

Think of Canvas as a virtual backpack, giving you a look at the day-to-day assignments. ParentVUE will still be the source for attendance and permanent record grades.

Visit the BSD Canvas for Parents webpage to learn more about how to create your own Canvas account, as well as answers to frequently asked questions.

CPMS Art Literacy Announces Changes

Screen Shot 2017-10-20 at 7.46.16 AM.png

We’ve gone through a renaissance and we’re heading back to ancient Egypt!

New Format and Location

Due to the customized nature of this year’s master schedule, it was difficult to carve out time when everyone in one grade was available simultaneously. In order to accommodate this tedious class schedule, we’ve moved to a different presentation/production model – smaller groups! And a new location - the library!

We look forward to more interaction with the students and the ability to coordinate with the
Humanities teachers to provide a relevant and interesting program. Our project this year will focus on ancient Egypt.

Mark Art Lit as a Preference in mVP

In order to ensure the success of the Art Literacy Program, we need volunteers and coordinators. To volunteer during the production part of the lesson, make sure that you checked the box next to Art Literacy in the MyVolunteerPage system. Once you do that, you will receive informative emails specific to your role in making Art Literacy possible.

Grade Level Coordinators Needed

We need Art Literacy Grade Level Coordinators for both 6th & 7th grades. You will work with the designated Humanities teacher for the grade to get dates for each group of presentations. You will give the presentations to that grade, or coordinate the volunteers who wish to present the lesson.

If this is something you would like to try, please email us at cpms.art.lit@gmail.com. Thank you for your help in continuing the tradition of supporting Art Literacy at Cedar Park.

Sincerely,
Daphne Teals & MaryBeth Piccirilli
Art Literacy Co-Coordinators

Cedar Park PTC Achieves 5K Dreams

Screen Shot 2017-10-16 at 7.52.10 AM.png

We did it, Cedar Park!

The 2017 Cedar Park 5K completed its fundraising mission last week, collecting $50,496 and earning an all-school ice cream celebration.  This record achievement was made possible by the groundswell of generous parent and community support.  Thank you to every Cedar Park family who donated in any capacity to the PTC's continuing mission of improving Cedar Park.

The team and individual competitions ended last Thursday, but donations are still welcome through October at https://www.firstgiving.com/411287/cedar-park-5k.  Top individual earners walk away with a lasered CP5K hydroflask, while fastest runners earn a jamba pack.  The three top grade-level teams will all enjoy an additional party.

Huge thanks are due to our 5K chairs, Erin Hire and Torey Muhs, and their hard-working 5K team.  This committee gave CPMS their most precious commodity– their time.  Weeks of effort went into this event and we are humbly grateful for every hour taken, from securing corporate sponsors to organizing event logistics.

MATCHING FUNDS

Corporate matching funds are incredibly valuable to this 5K effort.  Columbia, Intel, and Nike all offer matching fund programs.  If you have questions regarding your online receipt or about matching your CPMS donation, please contact Torey (cedarpark5k@gmail.com).
